movement + education to have an empowered pregnancy, birth and postpartum journey

Meet April

I help moms have an empowering pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience.

Pregnancy is beautiful but sometimes it can feel overwhelming and uncomfortable. I help moms feel better physically, mentally and emotionally using movement designed specially for pregnancy and postpartum, meditation to reduce stress and prepare for birth and education to take away fear and replace it with confidence. For the last decade I have supported thousands of women through pregnancy, birth and beyond. I am constantly learning and I currently serve the community as a prenatal yoga teacher + trainer, birth doula, childbirth Educator and prenatal yoga studio owner. As a mama of 2 I have been there, as a movement teacher, educator and a doula I have many experiences to pull from and share with you as you move through this journey.

FAQ

  • What if I have never done yoga before?

No worries! Our classes are designed so those you have never touched a yoga mat will feel confident in no time! So many women come to yoga for the first time during pregnancy, and April has worked with thousands of women just like you over the years. She has created classes that are easily modified and easy to follow.

  • How early in my pregnancy can I begin my yoga practice?

Around 12 weeks is when most women begin. It is when most begin to have a little more energy and they feel confident in their pregnancy. However, if you have clearance from your care provider you can begin whenever you feel ready. We always suggest that you get clearance from your care provider before you start any new exercise routines.

  • How late in my pregnancy can I do these classes?

As long as you have not been told otherwise by your care provider, we encourage you to practice until you have your beautiful baby! You need stamina and energy for birth and continuing your yoga practice will prepare you both physically and mentally for the journey ahead.

  • What equipment do I need?

Technically you don’t need anything to practice yoga. But there are a few things it may be nice to have on hand. Suggested props: Yoga mat, Yoga Blocks, blanket, strap and pillow. Yoga blocks can easily be swapped for books or cans, a strap can be swapped for a scarf, tie or towel.

  • What if I am carrying multiples?

As long as you are cleared by your care provider you can partake in classes, however, there are some additional considerations, deep squats or squats in general may not feel good as you progress in your pregnancy. We suggest that you tune into your body, and if anything does not feel good to you, do not do it. We offer modification in all classes for a variety of issues. Make sure to watch all the intro videos for modification options.

  • What if I am high risk?

As long as you are cleared by your care provider you can partake in classes, however, there are some additional considerations, deep squats or squats in general may not feel good as you progress in your pregnancy. April moves at a perfect pace

Jennifer

I wanted to take prenatal yoga with baby #1 but never found a place or class that I was comfortable with. I found Unfold Yoga a few years after baby #1 and knew if I ever had another baby I definitely wanted to try the prenatal yoga at Unfold. Well baby #2 came and I am so happy I was able to experience class at Unfold. It is very gentle and April moves at a perfect pace for you and your growing baby! I learned so much and I am so grateful to have her knowledge, expertise and support! Thank you!

I learned so much to help me manage all the discomforts of pregnancy

Celina

I started prenatal yoga with April throughout my second and third trimester. At first I was just looking for gentle ways to keep active during pregnancy but I benefited SO much more. Not only did I feel physically empowered, I also felt mentally empowered through my pregnancy and birth. I learned so much to help me manage all the discomforts of pregnancy plus help me stay focused and calm during birth. I fully believe that if it weren’t for April’s teachings, I would be so scared and intimidated during labor. Because of April, I learned to trust my instincts and my body. I stood my ground at the hospital and did not let the nurses or doctor intimidate me to induce. I knew the right questions to ask for the healthy and safety of my baby and I. Once we got to the active labor pushing part, I only pushed for less than 30 minutes. I totally belief the pelvic floor exercises and deep breathing I learned from prenatal yoga is the reason why it went smoothly!

There is so much support and love in this studio

Kate

Unfold Yoga has taken me through both of my pregnancies. The yoga part is great but the community that April has created for woman giving birth is unlike anywhere else. There is so much support and love in this studio, I couldn’t recommend it more! I am so grateful to have this place to educate me and help me move through pregnancy!

It was one of the best decisions I could have made for my pregnancy

Elena

Taking prenatal yoga with Unfold was one of the best decisions I could have made for my pregnancy. I was sore and uncomfortable, like most mamas are when they're growing a child, and I immediately felt relief.
